Water temps: 67-70
What a strange week on The Big V!! Unexpectedly, I saw an immediate stop to my lead core bite. 25+ fish in four hours down to maybe 3 fish in the same time frame. I assumed it would continue for another few weeks with this hot weather but I guess the fish are just as ready for fall as we are!!! With that being said, this hot weather has them confused because we should water temps touching the low 60s by now but instead we have low 70s. They are in the fall spots, they just aren’t feeding like fall…yet.
I have now switched over to all jigs! We have been using minnows mostly but I have heard reports of great crawler bites as well so those will be getting added back to the arsenal today! The bite is not fast and furious right now but you can put a great batch of fish together in 4 hours if you keep after it. We need some cold weather and the switch will flip and it will be game on!!!
It’s going to seem very vague, but we are fishing anywhere from 16’ all the way down to 35’ of water right now. There are fish everywhere and it’s spot depending! Deep holes and break lines have fish and the edges of flats and rock piles in shallower water have fish too! Mouths of bays that have deeper holes or flats are also holding fish. These create great ambush spots for bait fish. Move around and keep hitting pods of fish until you find one that goes!
My best bite, has been 16-22’ of water on the edge of break lines and flats. There is a very short bite window during the evenings right before dark. Up until that point it’s a grind in the afternoons for us.
