Week #3 of the open water season! May 27-June 3, 2024
Water temps: 60-64 degrees
The bite and the water is slowly heating up on Vermilion! This past week was huge positive for the lake as we had consistent temps in the low 70s with low wind and the water did nothing but warm up!!
The walleye are well on their way to the rocks and rock piles. Our best bite has been in the afternoons going into evening with the trusty bobber and leech. We are doing the best in 6-12’ of water and also catching some quality fish as deep as 14’ in the same areas just father off of the edge.
Floating a leech 12-18” over the top of the rocks is the key. If you’re too high off the rocks the fish won’t commit and come out from their hiding spots and if you’re too deep you’ll get snagged every cast. A plain red hook has been the best option for us.
Wind is a a huge factor right now. If there’s any wind at all you need to find where it is blowing and that’s where your best chances will be. Per usual this time of year, change spots constantly. There’s more rock piles on this lake than anybody can fish in a lifetime and not all of them hold fish, and not all of them hold active fish. Bounce around from spot to spot until you find fish that want to bite and then have fun! If you catch 3 or 4 in a spot don’t be surprised if they shut off and you have to move.
I have availability remaining for the rest of the summer! Give me a call or text @ (218) 404-9200 to book your trip today!!
