June 4-10, 2024

Week #4 of the open water season! June 4 – 10, 2024

Water temps: 62-66 degrees, warmer on sunny days with no wind.

The bobber bite is in full swing here on Lake Vermilion!! There’s no secret, June on The Big V is one of the best times to catch a giant walleye! So far in June we have had 5 new personal bests caught!

This week we focused all of our efforts on fishing in 3-10’ of water in the rocks. The water is warmer up shallow, and the rocks are now loaded with crayfish!!! Every walleye I cleaned this week was full of more crayfish than they could probably handle. Per usual, the bass were spitting them up on the way back to the boat.

Floating a slip bobber and a leech 12-18” over the top of rock piles and wind blown points is the ticket. Finding areas that have boulders rather than flat or chunk rock has been a huge key for finding more walleyes. Don’t be afraid to try super shallow as well. Friday evening we caught a handful of walleyes in water as shallow as 2’!!

Like I said last week, wind is key. Finding wind blown areas will increase your chances of success!

The smallmouth bass are in the same areas as the walleye right now. Slip bobbers and leeches are always a great go to for Lake Vermilion footballs but for you no live bait fishermen, swim boats and soft plastics are putting plenty of fish in the boat. Another great option for more aggressive smallies is a shallow diving crankbait in any type of craw color.

This time of year the biggest tip I can give is to move spots, move spots and then move some more. If you don’t get a bite in 10-15 minutes don’t waste anymore of your time. Keep on moving until you find fish that want to bite! Low lite hours have been a lot better for us than midday. Sunrise till 9 am and then 6:30-dark have been our best times.

I have availability remaining for the rest of the summer! Give me a call or text @ (218) 404-9200 to book your trip today!!
