August 6-12, 2024
Here is this weeks fishing report!
Week #13 of the open water season! August 6- 12, 2024
Water temps: 70-74
Well it’s that time of year! Late summer is in full swing and that means one thing, lead core!!!
We have been waiting for this bite since the beginning of July and it’s finally here! This week the lead core bite really started to heat up in the mud basins in 22-30’ of water. The perch have moved out to the mud and the walleyes are right behind them!
Search the mud basins and look for the marks on your 2d sonar. If you don’t see marks, there’s not enough fish there to worry about. Search the mud basins close to the sand areas I’ve been mentioning the last 3 weeks and thats where the walleyes will be.
Rule of thumb for lead core is 7’ of depth for every color (30’) of line out. I run a braided leader so you can feel the bait vibrate if it’s off bottom. If there’s no vibration you are either on bottom or there’s something wrong with the bait. It could be weeds, mud, bait is hooked on the line or even a small fish.
The best way to learn lead core is have a braided leader and let line out until you don’t feel vibration and then reel it up until you do. Then you know exactly how much line to run at that exact depth.
The best tip I can still give you is to get out on the water early and capitalize on those early morning hours. The bite seems to be lasting longer into the day right now with the cooler weather. Another tip is to have a bunch of different baits tied on, don’t have all the same color baits on your rod. Have options and see what they want on that given day. It’s changing all the time!
I have availability remaining for the rest of the summer! Give me a call or text @ (218) 404-9200 to book your trip today!! I have openings throughout August if you want to learn how to use lead core or just get on a super fun bite and catch some fish! Perfect for kids and families!
Tight Lines!
