Here is this weeks fishing report!!!

Week #15 of the open water season! August 20-26, 2024

Water temps: 70-74

The highlight of this week was the annual Take a Vet fishing day put on by the Lake Vermilion Guides League!!! This is my second year helping out with the event and it’s nothing short of a great time! Being able to take amazing people fishing as a thank you for their service is the least we can do! Looking forward to next years event!

This weeks report will be short and simple! I am focusing on the 20-30’ mud basins with 20-25’ being the best depth for me.

I am trolling lead core and Rapalas at 2.0-2.5 mph depending on the day. Some days we are having to hold the rods and work the bait a little bit to get some bites. Other days we are just running them straight up.

If you aren’t marking fish, move spots. If you are marking fish and not getting any bites, change color and technique. Another trick I like is even reeling in 1-5’ of line or let out a couple more feet of line. This can run the bait slightly different and might trigger more bites! It’s not uncommon for me to change 5 different colors to finally find what they want on that given day.

The best way to learn lead core is have a braided leader and let line out until you don’t feel vibration and then reel it up until you do. Then you know exactly how much line to run at that exact depth.

The best tip I can still give you is to get out on the water early!!! The best bite is from sun up till around 9:30-10:00. Another tip is to have a bunch of different baits tied on, don’t have all the same color baits on your rod. Have options and see what they want on that given day. It’s changing all the time!

I have availability remaining for the rest of the year! September is wide open and the best fishing is coming up! Give me a call or text @ (218) 404-9200 to book your trip today!!

Tight Lines!
